What is CrossFit Endurance?
CrossFit Endurance is a branch of
CrossFit that deals with more endurance like activities, like long distance
running, swimming, biking, and so on. Many people are drawn to CrossFit but
don't want to give up their triathlons, marathons, or love for trial running.
Although CrossFit does have an endurance component in it, it sometimes doesn't
satisfy the people who enjoy doing more endurance activities. For them,
CrossFit endurance programming is perfect.
However, many of the people who did
endurance training before did it for hours on end every day. CrossFit endurance
programming doesn't make you do hours on to top of hours of training, and they
say this gives you even better results. Some of their training consists of
choosing biking, running, rowing, swimming, and doing it for intervals or for a
certain amount of time. Another day they will say for you to do a workout on
the main page, which is a great way to mix it up. You could also choose to
alternate between the main site workouts, and the endurance workouts to give
you the blend you are looking for in your workouts.
Another great thing about endurance
training is that it is great for your heart. A lot of doctors recommend this
type of training to help fight cardiovascular disease. Keeping your heart
healthy in old age, or even while you're young to help avoid problems when you
are older, is a great idea. That is another reason a lot of people are drawn to
more endurance activities as well, and that is if there parents or grandparents
died of a heart condition.
Just like the CrossFit endurance
types make fun of the really big strong guys, because they can't do anything
for more than a few minutes without panting, the endurance types make the
mistake of not strength training enough. Performing tons of endurance training
is good, but you have to keep your joints healthy and maintain good strength.
However, many endurance athletes don't take the time to strength train. You
need some simple pieces of equipment to do some proper strength training to
balance your body out. Make sure you own a kettlebell, a pair of adjustable
dumbbells, and a barbell with some bumper plates. These simple items will start
you off in the right direction to make sure you can keep enjoying your
endurance activities, while still maintaining a healthy body.
