Plantar fascia pain management

Over the weekend the Bulletproofbodies Team were asked lots of questions about foot pain in particular, plantar fasciitis.

After 22 years in the Military I can tell you that I have tried all sorts of tricks when it comes to footwear, Orthotics and inner soles.

Wearing boots for long periods of time can irritate the bottom of the foot resulting in plantar fascia pain.

The plantar fascia is a thick band of connective tissue that acts like a ligament to help support your arch and provide shock absorption during weight bearing activities.

The area where the plantar fascia attaches to the bottom of the heel bone is a place that can get stressed or injured and become inflamed.

When this happens, you have plantar fasciitis. The good news is that you can prevent this happening and stop the problem before it gets worse.

Our answer is "get some balls!"

At Bulletproofbodies our weapons of choice are Rockballs and Pulseball:

Bulletproof Physio at the Fan Dance Winter 2019

While everyone else is thinking about joining the Gym and losing some weight for the New Year, Endurance Athletes have been training hard over the Christmas break to perform on the first adventure race of the year, the legendary
Fan Dance.

Last weekend three events were available:

The Fan Dance, Double Tap and Trident.

Some were also doing Blade Runner!

Clean fatigue choose to run, others TAB as they are carrying load, but all of them will be challenged by the hill.

AEE (Avalanche Endurance Events) are an awesome team to work hard to make this race the gold standard for both fun and safety.

There is always a different feel about this event when compared to other races.

There is a Military flavour to this event that makes every athlete sit up and take notice.

From the kit checks to the photo at the finish, this event is the real deal.

The Bulletproofbodies Team were there to keep all athletes from getting a Musculo-Skeletal injury and for treatment in between races.

Physio support from Dale and Uzo was available around the clock as we provide the necessary treatment to keep athletes going.

This is Claire who is clearly telling us that she wants to come in first place.

Mark in the ready position at the start of his third and final ascent.

Don’t forget to check out our e-book on injury prevention and management for the Hill.

We will see you back on the hill for the Summer Fan Dance 2019.

After the pain, a well-deserved Fan Dance Ale.

The Bulletproofbodies Team salutes all athletes and support staff with AEE.

What Causes Runner's High?

Two weekends ago I experienced the so called, "Runners High."

The Bulletproofbodies SF Fit Team were working at the AEE Special Forces Event in the Brecon Beacons and we got a chance to do the night march/run/Tab.

About an hour into the run I felt more alive and in tune with my body than I have for years.

It felt primal, man against mountain.

We were running in a group, competing only against ourselves and the terrain.

The Sunset start, the warm summer air the beautiful scenery all contributed to this feeling of euphoria.

The runner's high has two components to it.

The physical and the mental.

The physical results from the release of endorphins (or does it? - see above video) and this usually occurs thirty to forty minutes after continuous running, the mental aspect is the more elusive one aspect of this state.

The mental phenomenon is usually described as, "a state of euphoria and absence of the self or ego."

And yet you need to pay attention to your breathe, the scenery, your muscles and open your mind to all sensations as you run.

If you do this the ego is eliminated at least for a while and the runners high is then experienced.

AEE Special Forces Events Summer Fan Dance

The Fan Dance Summer 2018

Last weekend, July 7th & 8th 2018.

The Bulletproofbodies SF Fit team were back in the beautiful Brecon Beacons supporting those brave enough to attempt the Fan Dance series.

The Weather was super-hot, so everyone had to be on point with his or her hydration whether clean fatigue or load bearing.

As usual Bulletproofbodies S F Fit were providing race day sports massage and Physiotherapy for this event.

The great thing about this event is the Endurance Athlete community that AEE has fostered with these adventure weekends.

There was even a Foam Roller area for all athletes to self-manage their own musculo-skeletal needs

Calves and Quads were the most popular areas for us to treat.

A big thank you to all the athletes that used our services.

Even the Bulletproofbodies Team found time in our busy schedule to complete High Moon.

The Summer Fan Dance 2018 - Injury Prevention Tips

This weekend the Bulletproofbodies Team are supporting Endurance Athletes as they tackle the legendary Fan Dance.

As with all endurance sports preparation is the key to success.

We all know that injury is the enemy.

However, there are a few things you can do on race day that will keep you injury free and Bulletproof your body:

Make sure you warm up

Hydrate well

Eat little but often

Stop and stretch for 30 seconds if something hurts, don't battle on for the sake of 30 seconds.

Use a foam Roller before if you know you have particularly tight muscles in a specific area.

Watch for hot spots on your feet and where your kit might rub.

Don't forget to look up and enjoy the scenery, it's only pain!

Come to the Bulletproofbodies Tent for a relaxing massage

Fan Dance Summer.. The toughest event in the UK!

This weekend 7th / 8th July 2018 sees endurance athletes from all over the UK complete the legendary Fan Dance in the Brecon Beacons.

As usual the Bulletproofbodies Team will be there to support all athletes and Directing Staff for this amazing Endurance event;

But what does it mean to experience the Fan Dance?

In our artificial world of mortgages, smart phones and the incessant chatter of the voice in the head, there is an urgent need to return to the simple raw intensity of man against nature: the human will pit against an unapologetic and silent adversary of rock and earth.

Sweat prickling the forehead and soaking the back, straps digging into the shoulders and the primitive urge to suck in the next breath and keep going smother out everyday concerns.

The glorious feeling of the body working to its maximum capacity washes over you, jockeying for position with dozens of other competitors makes your heart feel as though it is attacking the inside of the rib cage.

Fully dilated pupils drink in the richness of the surroundings as you pound up the mountain, scalding heat bursts through the leg muscles and the hypnotic rhythm of gravel underfoot and urgent breathing echoes around you.

This is what it means to be alive: the vital and overwhelming awareness of the present moment thrust onto you by straining lungs and aching limbs.

This is what it means to do The Fan Dance.

It's not over until you have had your first Official Fan Dance Ale!
