Physio for Dolomite's Expedition 2019

Last week Dale from Bulletproofbodies had the pleasure of being the Physio on an Army Expedition to the Dolomites in Italy.

Naturally, when you take a Physio with your expedition they add significant value in many different ways.

They are an expert in Musculo-Skeletal injury able to provide injury prevention, treatment and management throughout the expedition.

As well as taking a stretching session after a day of hill walking.

There is lots of opinion about stretching and injury prevention and it appears that there is a lack of scientific evidence to support this.

However, when I go out on the hills I always stretch afterwards as this helps my body to recover and feel better post exercise.

I ran Yoga classes every day for those on the expedition and they all reported the benefits of feeling less stiff and painful the next day. Plus it is also a great group activity that gets everyone involved.

In addition to basic stretching and Yoga, I also use a Compex with aid with recovery.

The most common type of injury when climbing or walking up and down mountains is an over-use injury.

This typically manifests as lateral knee pain, particularly when going down hill, carrying a back pack.

This will be later diagnosed as ITB Compression syndrome.

There is no way to stretch the ITB but you can influence the lateral chain, by performing a body stretch to the side.

But this best way I have found to keep ITB under control  is to roll.

Or Pulseroll to be more precise.

How does Compex Muscle Stimulation work?

Electro-stimulation works and is a method recognized by the medical world.

It is now an integral part of physiotherapy and pain management protocols. It has been a technique used by physical therapists for many years.

Electrostimulation is not a miraculous technique, it respects how your body works.
The principle of electrostimulation is very simple and precisely reproduces the processes that occur when our brain orders muscles to contract.

When we decide to contract a muscle, our brain sends a signal in the form of an electric current that travels at high speed along the nerve fibers up to the muscle which reacts by contracting.

In the case of electrostimulation, excitation occurs directly on the motor nerve using electrical pulses perfectly controlled to guarantee effectiveness, safety and comfort in use.
In fact, muscles cannot tell the difference between a voluntary contraction (triggered by the brain) and an electrically induced contraction: the work done is exactly the same. It's natural!

Behind The Scenes - Battle Cancer 2018 - Powered by Again Faster

This is an excellent “behind the scenes” video of this Team at Battle Cancer Manchester 2018.

This young team surprised everyone at Battle Cancer by winning the event.

Joel Carter has done a great job putting this video together.

Having worked with Compex for Athlete Services at both Battle Cancer Manchester and London, I can safely say that this was our "most fun" event of the year.

Well done to Scott for organising these amazing events.

Battle Cancer London 2018 was a huge success.

Team Compex won the competition,

With Team Progenex in close second.

Most athletes took us up on the offer of completely FREE treatment on the Compex UK stand.

Two Physio’s Dale (Left) and Freddie (Right) and Osteopath James provided expert Triage, assessment and manual therapy for all athletes competing.

If you are London-based then check out Freddie’s clinic REMEDY:

We also provided a FREE taping service for all Athletes as well as state of the art recovery with the Compex.

One of the WOD's involved carrying an asymmetrical load, in the form of a 30Kg for Women and 50Kg for Men.

Care must be taken when using asymmetrical load as we then treated a number of men who had a spinal lateral shift, with associated pain.

After some expert manual therapy we helped to correct the lateral shift then used the Compex tape to remind them of optimal posture.

As usual the Bulletproofbodies team salutes all athletes who took part and to Scott and others for their expert organisation.

BATTLE CANCER 2018 (London) & BULLETPROOFBODIES

Bulletproofbodies and Compex will be proudly supporting Battle Cancer 2018 this Saturday the 20th of October at Olympia in West London.

After the success of Battle Cancer Manchester, we now go down south to my home town London.

The idea for Battle Cancer was born as a result of personal stories, love for fitness and desire to help.

The event owners are Powerlifter Scott Britton and CrossFit enthusiast Peter Williams, two friends who’s lives have been repeatedly disrupted by the deadly disease.

We are a bunch of friends and CrossFit enthusiasts that gathered together to help out Scott and Pete in their pursuit of raising as much money for cancer patients as possible.

Together we can make a change in this world.

Battle Cancer is a really accessible functional fitness competition that raises money for the UK cancer society.

It combines the passion for fitness with remembering the people you lost or the ones you supported in their struggle with cancer.

There are multiple ways you can support this cause, even if you are not interested in competing.

Visit our “Get involved” section to find out how to donate or become a volunteer.

The details are on the Website below:

Compex will be there supporting the athletes with enhanced recovery in between WODs and Pre-Activation Warm ups for the Heavy Lifting.
