MAT FRASER - CrossFit & The Power of Quotes

Congratulations, you made it!

The 2018 CrossFit Open is over.

But who’s on top?

Mat Fraser of course,

with 98 points in the 2018 CrossFit Open.

In Richard Froning's shadow previously until 2014.

Then it was Ben Smith in 2015.

He kept coming second.

Finally in 2016 he made the difference.

Then he did it again.

He now dominates this year's CrossFit Open in 2018.

Mat uses this quote in his training:

"I'm going to do today what other people aren't willing to do, so that I can do tomorrow what other people can't."

What can we learn from the amazing Sara Sigmundsdottir?

Congratulations, you made it!

The 2018 CrossFit Open is over.

Now it's time to stop being an athlete and start being a fan!

What can we learn from these amazing athletes?

Sara Sigmundsdottir describes her journey to the games.

How bad do you want it?

If you wouldn't give up in competition, why would you give up in  training?

She describes combating food poisoning both her rib fracture and knee injury.

The cause was over-training and not recovering enough.

In CrossFit you are taught to go through the pain, however, you need to differentiate between pain from training that goes quickly and pain that creeps up on you that does not go away.

What about YOU?

Are you training or are you draining?

Below are 7 questions you need to ask yourself about over-training:

1.     Are you getting odd pains and aches all over your body?

2.     Are you feeling tired or de-motivated?

3.     Are you having trouble sleeping?

4.     Have you lost your appetite?

5.      Have you lost your sex drive?

6.     Does your workout feel harder than normal?

7.     When was the last time you got a personal best?

Now that the Open is over, take some time out to let your body recover.

Have a couple of weeks of de-loading and then watch as you feel more motivated and you get a PB for the first time in ages.

How to Tape For Open 18.4 - Reebok CrossFit Games Taping Strategy

So how did you get on with the new standard for Hand Stand Push Ups?

Did you spend 8 mins getting No Rep’d?

Don’t worry, there’s still time to do it again.

That’s if your back can handle it after all the Deadlifts!
I've been treating lots of back this week.

Anyway, here’s how to tape your back for 18.4.
There are 3 areas you want to tape for this:
1. Shoulders,
this is a simple two piece taping over the deltoid

2. Core,
helping you maintain that ribs down position and prevnt hyperextension
3. Low back,
to help your lower back maintain a neutral position for all those deadlifts

CrossFit® Open 18.4 WOD Tips & Strategy [WODprep OFFICIAL!]

Safety and efficiency is the name of the game in 18.4.

Before you even attempt this Rx.

Do you have any of the following:

1.     Neck injuries

2.     Back injuries

3.     Heavy Diane is close to your 1 RM

DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE HANDSTAND WALKING!

You have to complete Diane first,
then get through 21 heavy Deadlifts,
before you even start Handstand walking.

Don't sprint through Diane and fatigue yourself for Heavy Diane.

Deadlifts

For the Deadlift, try singles and drop from the top to avoid eccentric fatigue.

Use a staggered grip for extra strength, this is much better then hook gripping.

Handstand Push ups

Watch the new standard for Handstand Push ups

Use plates and an ab mat to protect your head

Scaled

Hand-release Push Ups and Bear Crawls

Don't snake rep the push ups with a bum first movement

Rest at the bottom of the movement

Avoid "bro reps"

Try kipping hand-release push ups (hands and foot release at the same time)

Bear crawl with wide feet

don't forget to start with your hands BEHIND the line to start

Masters (55+)

Push press instead of handstand press ups
