The one piece of fitness equipment you don't have - A Standing Desk

People sitting a lot will definitely have an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, and early death. Moreover, sitting for a very long time won't burn many calories. In fact, lots of studies have linked it to obesity and weight gain. Today, this is the major problem of office workers since they often sit throughout the day. Good thing there are standing desks these days.

Standing Desks - What Are They?

Standing desks, also known as stand-up desks are desks which allow a person to stand up comfortably while working on his or her computer. Lots of modern versions are now adjustable so you can easily change the height of the desk and alternate between standing and sitting.

Others may call these height-adjustable desks. Though there are still few studies showing the benefits of this office item, many health pros believed that it can partly negate the harmful effects of sitting too often.

Benefits Of A Standing Desk

Reduced back pain - More office workers complain of back pain. Those who made use of standing desks claimed that there was a significant improvement in lower back pain after a couple of weeks. Chronic back pain as a result of prolonged sitting can definitely be reduced by using this state-of-the-art office item.

Improved energy levels and mood - There has been claims that this desk has a positive effect on the overall well-being of a person. There was actually a certain study showing that it lowered feeling of stress and fatigue whilst improving mood and energy levels.

Low risk of weight gain and obesity - Weight gain occurs when you take in more calories than you burn. On the contrary, burning more calories than you ingest will result in weight loss. Although exercise is known to be the most efficient way of burning calories, choosing to stand rather than sit can likewise be very beneficial. Be aware that standing for an afternoon can burn 170 more calories than an equal amount of sitting. In time, this difference can surely have a huge impact on your weight.

Low blood sugar levels - Sitting after meals could help explain why extreme sedentary time is associated with 112% greater risk of type 2 diabetes. Using standing desks at work can help lower blood sugar levels, most especially after lunch.

Low risk of heart disease - In 1953, it was proposed that standing is better for heart health. A certain study found that bus conductors had half the risk of heart disease-related deaths as compared to their colleagues in the driver's seats. This has prompted scientists to better understand the effects of sitting on heart health. This further means that the more time you spend just sitting, the greater is your risk for developing heart disease.

Indeed, there are many great benefits that these desks offer. No wonder, more and more people are considering of investing in high quality standing desk these days.

There are lots of studies showing the positive effects of stand-up desks in a person's life. More info mentioned here.

What's stopping you trying your first CROSSFIT COMPETITION?

Competition in life makes you a better person, it is what the American society, and the world thrives best on. If you are trying to better yourself than it is most likely because you are trying to be the best YOU. It's time we stop giving out participation medals, and seeking goals that are difficult to obtain.

Eagerness to not fall behind: Are you going to suck at first, of course. You can't learn how to play chess first try. But if you do everything you can to get yourself "up to par", you will grow much faster in your gym. No one wants to look like an idiot, and this drive to make yourself "one of the guys" will force rapid improvement.

CrossFit gyms always have Others to Push You: Take it from someone who owns a CrossFit gym. I push myself as hard as I can so that I will have the top-score, but I am thrilled if someone can beat me. I will demand it out of my students. I don't want it to be easy for me to be beaten, but that's the point. Anything that's hard is worth having, right? Members at CrossFit gyms are just like that. They want to push themselves past the next person, but if someone passes them, they want to get a better time to keep pushing themselves and the others in the gym.

Competition in the CrossFit gym, makes you better at life: Think about your days back in high school, where you wanted to be the best quarterback or wrestler or jeez, tuba player. We live in a competitive society, and this is ingrained into our social consciousness. It's time you embrace this. Find someone who is a little bit better than you in the gym... or life... and try to make your time (abilities) better than theirs. This won't be easy, because they will be improving to, but if you have benchmarks and goals, than obtaining them is so sweet!

CrossFit gyms give you a Better Knowledge of What the Body is Capable Of: Look around the gym, do you think there is any way YOU will be capable of pulling off the feats you see from the others during the day's CrossFit WOD. Guess what, when they walked in on Day 1, they look just like you! Their CrossFit technique was terrible, trust me! I own a CrossFit gym, and while some learn faster than others, everyone looks like a goof on day 1. No one is judging you, because they looked like you their first day.

CrossFit is Healthy and not unsafe: Not only will you be competitive in the gym, thus making you more physically fit. But those around you will be transforming the physical appearance, and their mental attitudes. You will see them going through the transformation and you will do whatever you can to transform with them. It's a team atmosphere, and everyone is their to health. You'll improve your mental health by having more friends, releasing natural endorphins and pushing yourself past limits you only dreamed of. You will improve your physical health because you will be increasing your strength and stamina, and will be surrounded by a crowd who eat right with the paleo diet.

CrossFit competition is Fun: It just is! For all the reasons listed above. If you took state in high school, it was probably one of the greatest moment of your life, and if you didn't take state, but strived towards that goal, than you know that it was A) Fun to chase that goal and B) Made you a better person. Don't coddle yourself, embrace how fun the CrossFit lifestyle can be, and push yourself like you didn't know possible.

Not wanting to lose to a CrossFit girl: CrossFit girls are awesome! They are tough, competitive and just plain "one-of-the-guys". The chances of you losing to a girl your first time in the gym is likely. Don't worry, they are used to this and won't make you feel inadequate. Your goal will now be to push yourself to at least their level and beyond. If you can catch them, they will respect you for it. Plus, CrossFit girls are so hot!

This is why you need Endurance in your programming

    What is CrossFit Endurance?

CrossFit Endurance is a branch of CrossFit that deals with more endurance like activities, like long distance running, swimming, biking, and so on. Many people are drawn to CrossFit but don't want to give up their triathlons, marathons, or love for trial running. Although CrossFit does have an endurance component in it, it sometimes doesn't satisfy the people who enjoy doing more endurance activities. For them, CrossFit endurance programming is perfect.

However, many of the people who did endurance training before did it for hours on end every day. CrossFit endurance programming doesn't make you do hours on to top of hours of training, and they say this gives you even better results. Some of their training consists of choosing biking, running, rowing, swimming, and doing it for intervals or for a certain amount of time. Another day they will say for you to do a workout on the main page, which is a great way to mix it up. You could also choose to alternate between the main site workouts, and the endurance workouts to give you the blend you are looking for in your workouts.

Another great thing about endurance training is that it is great for your heart. A lot of doctors recommend this type of training to help fight cardiovascular disease. Keeping your heart healthy in old age, or even while you're young to help avoid problems when you are older, is a great idea. That is another reason a lot of people are drawn to more endurance activities as well, and that is if there parents or grandparents died of a heart condition.

Just like the CrossFit endurance types make fun of the really big strong guys, because they can't do anything for more than a few minutes without panting, the endurance types make the mistake of not strength training enough. Performing tons of endurance training is good, but you have to keep your joints healthy and maintain good strength. However, many endurance athletes don't take the time to strength train. You need some simple pieces of equipment to do some proper strength training to balance your body out. Make sure you own a kettlebell, a pair of adjustable dumbbells, and a barbell with some bumper plates. These simple items will start you off in the right direction to make sure you can keep enjoying your endurance activities, while still maintaining a healthy body.

9 Reasons You Should Be Dating A CrossFit Chick

Guys are always trying to figure out reasons for, or not to date a chick. There's a million reasons that play into what kind of girls we as guys should be dating. So let's start with why guys should be dating athletes, in particular, athletes that do CrossFit.

1. CrossFit girls are seriously fit. You ever seen the CrossFit Games? Has anyone ever watched those girls and thought anything but "Wow! Those girls are attractive". You sick of going to the gym and seeing your girl on the elliptical even though you know it's a waste of their time. Well, now not only will they be doing real functional exercises, but you will have an actual lifting partner, not just someone who shares the ride to the gym with you.

2. CrossFit girls show Dedication. I don't know about you guys, but I want a girl who has her own goals, not just a girl who muddles around me. CrossFit chicks tend to not only be dedicated to getting better at CrossFit, but also better in life. That whole mentality, "If I can finish this today's CrossFit WOD, than I can do anything". Expect goal oriented chicks, who are the aforementioned "Hot chicks" in reason #1.

3. CrossFit girls are (for the most part) "guy's girls." - CrossFit chicks want the lift that's the hardest, and will make them the best at sports. This natural interest in sport-specific workouts often translates into a fascination of other athletes and their sports. Expect them to watch the game with you on Sunday.

4. Independence is key for CrossFit girls. CrossFit chicks don't need us men. They are independent, if you are holding her back from her gym time, than they will kiss you goodbye, because they want their extra time to be spent at their CrossFit WOD. Don't get me wrong, if she WANTS you in her life, than you will have her. But try to keep up!

5. CrossFit Girls are Competitive. These girls feel like the sky is the limit. You will find yourself pushed in life, as hard as they are pushed in the gym. Who wants the girl who's scared to try things? Nobody! These CrossFit chicks will push you as hard as your friends will, but good luck being as good at anything as them! Don't want to lose to a girl? Than be competitive right back, it's all part of the fun!

7. You ever tried a CrossFit Girls last Paleo recipe? You ever had any of these meals? They are incredible. Some CrossFit girls are more Paleo than others, but regardless, you will find yourself eating DELICIOUS meals, your wasteline shrinking while she gets more sexy as well. They don't eat peckishly, instead they eat heartily trying to strengthen their body, not just make it skinny.

8. CrossFit Girls have Personality. To do CrossFit you have to thrive in a group setting. You have to be able to be competitive with a group, and yet not scared of having others beat you. Expect girls who are witty, sharp tongued and love practical jokes.

9. CrossFit girls have great sex: Physical fitness lead to better sex. Not only will she be more attractive, but she will also be stronger, have better stamina, more flexibility, etc. So if the first nine reasons why you should be dating a CrossFit girl weren't enough... this should really drive it home for you.

Do you need heavy weights to train?

Suspended Body Weight Training with FK Pro.

Suspended Bodyweight Training is a form of body weight resistance training performed on a portable device (F K Pro) that can be attached to a frame, rig or even a tree. It consists of straps that are adjustable to suit a particular exercise.

This lack of stability provides a multi-planar opportunity to perform movements that you are not capable of doing on most other equipment.

F K Pro is the number one British product for Suspended Bodyweight Training.

There are so many training techniques that you can do with F K Pro that you just cannot do with any other type of training.

Take for instance the simple exercise of pressing.

The F K Pro teaches you instantly how to use your upper extremity in a self-limiting way.

The movement will feel awkward at first until your body understands the proximal (close to the mid-line) to distal (away from the mid-line) transmission of stability into strength.

You are not fixed like you would be on a machine.

As consequence you will have to use multiple components of fitness including balance and proprioception.

At Bulletproofbodies we don’t use machines, we help build them.

Check out the F K Pro website below and order yours today:

Functional Training - From JP's Ultra Spiritual Life

Are you tired of Functional Fitness Gurus telling you what to do?

No?

Didn’t think so!

Check out this video from JP’s Ultra Spiritual Life:

This guy cracks me up!

"When I see people in the Gym not doing functional exercise, I criticise them in a very educational way. Because I care!"

We all love Functional Training but sometimes we need to look at ourselves in a light-hearted way.

This video makes us reflect on the fact that for our modern sedentary life we don't actually need a high level of fitness to do our 'first world' jobs anymore.

However, what is important is achieving our human potential, especially in the physical realm.

We can't achieve our physical training goals at work.

We can't achieve our full potential if we sit down for 8 hours a day!

So what's the answer?

A sit to stand desk.

We at Bulletproofbodies have been using a standing desk for ages now and the difference to our energy levels and productivity is significant.

Not to mention that we don't get that "I've been sat down all day" feeling that we used to get.

Look at it as training inbetween training sessions.

So check out which desk is best for you by visiting Sit to Stand .com:

Can you do Ninja Warrior in Fancy dress?

Ninja Warrior UK starts its filming today here in Manchester.

Ninja Warrior is hard enough, but could you do it dressed as a T-Rex?

Fancy dress sometimes allows us to be someone other than ourselves.

I always admired those poor souls who run any Marathon is fancy dress.

Especially the guys that run London Marathon dressed as Rhinos.

That is hardcore!

However, training with a weighted vest is a great idea to build strength and endurance.

Just look at the legendary Workout “Murph” for example.

A CrossFit Heroes workout.

By using a weighted vest to perform pullups or dips you could choose to focus on the eccentric (lowering part of the movement).

Eccentrics or "Negatives" as they are sometimes called, are a great way to build strength as your muscles are lengthening under load.

And as we know, not only are stronger people harder to kill, but thet are also less likely to get injured.

Thanks to Fun Maxima for their video, check out their channel on:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmbgNuKpzKJzNjhnFHaNK3A

So wherever you are, if you are doing something athletic in fancy dress, the Bulletproofbodies Team Salute you.

For Kettlebell Training, Bulletproofbodies only recommends - Pavel Tsatsouline

Do you ever wonder where Kettle Bell Training originated?

When using the Kettle Bell to train there is only one Master to listen to.

There is only one Pavel.

Pavel Tsatsouline is the real deal.

Watch this video to learn the KettleBell basics from the original Master.

He is best known for bringing the Kettle Bell to the West and incorporating "Russian Style" training into every wannabe CrossFitter.

The Kettle Bell Swing is the basic exercise.

The Swing is a closed chain exercise that works the posterior chain.

What?

It means that it works the muscles of the lower back, Glutes, and Hamstrings in a functional way.

The Kettle Bell also teaches you timing and rhythm.

Pavel's book, "The Naked Warrior" is simplistic in it's genius.

It concentrates on only TWO exercises, the Squat and Press Up.

However, if you can do one leg "Pistol" squats and "one arm press ups" then you are already well ahead of the pack.

So Comrade, Enjoy!

Pavel the Bulletproofbodies Team Salute you.
