Sara Sigmundsdottir and the importance of naps

Sara Sigmundsdottir

CrossFit is my job!

It takes time, that’s just how it is.

You need to be patient.

But you also need to be ready.

You never know what could come up.

Eat, sleep, train repeat.

Not sleeping enough was a big problem for Sara.

It is something that we often forget in a world full of training.

Sleep hygiene is important to allow you to get 8 hours sleep per night.

Combined with 20 minute naps throughout the day.

20 minutes is the perfect amount of time for a nap.

Any longer and your body goes into a deeper sleep and you will feel groggy when you wake up.

So there you have it.

Sleep more!

MAT FRASER - CrossFit & The Power of Quotes

Congratulations, you made it!

The 2018 CrossFit Open is over.

But who’s on top?

Mat Fraser of course,

with 98 points in the 2018 CrossFit Open.

In Richard Froning's shadow previously until 2014.

Then it was Ben Smith in 2015.

He kept coming second.

Finally in 2016 he made the difference.

Then he did it again.

He now dominates this year's CrossFit Open in 2018.

Mat uses this quote in his training:

"I'm going to do today what other people aren't willing to do, so that I can do tomorrow what other people can't."

What can we learn from the amazing Sara Sigmundsdottir?

Congratulations, you made it!

The 2018 CrossFit Open is over.

Now it's time to stop being an athlete and start being a fan!

What can we learn from these amazing athletes?

Sara Sigmundsdottir describes her journey to the games.

How bad do you want it?

If you wouldn't give up in competition, why would you give up in  training?

She describes combating food poisoning both her rib fracture and knee injury.

The cause was over-training and not recovering enough.

In CrossFit you are taught to go through the pain, however, you need to differentiate between pain from training that goes quickly and pain that creeps up on you that does not go away.

What about YOU?

Are you training or are you draining?

Below are 7 questions you need to ask yourself about over-training:

1.     Are you getting odd pains and aches all over your body?

2.     Are you feeling tired or de-motivated?

3.     Are you having trouble sleeping?

4.     Have you lost your appetite?

5.      Have you lost your sex drive?

6.     Does your workout feel harder than normal?

7.     When was the last time you got a personal best?

Now that the Open is over, take some time out to let your body recover.

Have a couple of weeks of de-loading and then watch as you feel more motivated and you get a PB for the first time in ages.

CrossFit® Open WOD 18.5 Tips & Strategy [WODprep OFFICIAL!]

18.5 Strategy

Butterfly Pull Ups if you can.

Transitions are key and can eat up a lot of time.

Minimise transition time and distance.

Stick to your plan!

Thrusters

Slow and Steady is best

Breath, don't hold your breath

Breath out as you press

Full grip

Elbows up

Have a Plan as you get deeper into the parts that suck

3 x 5 for 15

or

10 + 5  for 15 - negative splits

C2B Pull Ups

Singles for this so don't go unbroken

Break before you are broken

Never red line until the end

Box drop in technique if you are trying Rx for the first time.

Try different grips, staggered or supinated grip.

The CrossFit Open: 18.5 Tips & Strategy [+ WARM-UP]

18.5 is a repeat of 11.6.

A couplet of ascending 3 Thrusters, then 3 chest-to-bar pull-ups etc for 7 minutes.

Remember that position is POWER.

Here are some top tips to get you in optimal position:

1. Try to warm up with a Thoracic Rotation in the deep squat position.

2. Warm up your Wrists thoroughly

3. Work on overhead position

4. Wear gloves (don't need the "chalk up" rest)

5. Don't party too hard if you want to repeat this workout

Play around with the width of your hands on both Thrusters and Pull ups.

Wider is less distance.

Good luck!

18.5 was YOUR choice!

18.5

The community voted for 18.5 from the choice of 3 workouts:

18.5 is a repeat of 11.6.

We knew it was coming.

Pull ups and Thrusters, thanks Dave.

It's 7 minutes of FRAN on Steroids!

This workout begins with the barbell on the floor and the athlete standing tall.

After the call of “3, 2, 1 … go,” the athlete may perform 3 Thrusters, then 3 chest-to-bar pull-ups.

The athlete will repeat this couplet, performing:

 6 thrusters and 6 pull-ups,

9 and 9,

12 and 12, and so on,

 until the 7-minute time cap.

In the battle of the Dottirs, Annie won proving that she is back on form.
