CROSSFIT GAMES 2019 HIGHLIGHTS

So, are you over it yet?

The CrossFit Games remains the same.

Mat Fraser and Tia-Clair and Team Mayhem Freedom are our champions once again.

An amazing result for Norway's Kristin Holte coming 2nd at the Games.

It was very sad to see that there was little media coverage for the Masters or Teen divisions.

So what about the UK?

Huge congratulations to Reece Mitchell for coming an amazing 4th Fittest Teenager in the world.

Team JST Compete came an outstanding 10th in the Team competition.

The UK's Elliot Simmonds came 37th in the Men's competition.

Sam Briggs came 18th in the Women's competition.

It may be hard to believe but The CrossFit Open is only weeks away.

Gulp! - Workout 20.1 will be announced on October 10th.

Is your body Bulletproof?

Hunter McIntyre gets the Wild Card at the CrossFit Games

Of all the changes made to the CrossFit Games schedule and qualification process, the one that seems to have elicited the greatest amount of emotional reaction from the CrossFit community is the introduction of Wildcards.

Four invitations to compete with and against the best CrossFit athletes in the world, free of charge, without ever having competed in the sport.

So, Hunter McIntyre is going to the CrossFit Games.

But he didn’t qualify through a sanctioned event.

Greg Glassman basically offered a “wild card” spot to Hunter McIntyre and he has received his official invite to compete at the 2019 CrossFit Games.

In the history of the CrossFit Games, a wildcard invite like this has never been issued before.

What will CrossFit do next?

Delete their Social Media?

Technically, there are still three more wildcard spots available but we’ve heard no additional information on how or if they will be used.

So who is Hunter?

2x Tough Mudder X World Champion (2017 and 2018)

6x OCR World Champion

4x OCR National Champion (USA)

Undefeated Broken Skull Ranch champion 3 years running.

OK, so he’s a player in the Game.

How does this benefit the CrossFit community?

By giving a wildcard to a big name draw from another sport can only be good for the sport itself.

Increased spectatorship, generated from crossover appeal from fans of said athlete’s previous sport, is an obvious pro.

But the secondary benefit is more important.

Those first-time viewers of the sport are far more likely to join a box.

Is CrossFit HQ is more clever than we think?

#theyearcrossfitwentmad

#theyearcrossfitwentmad

This is the hashtag that Sam Briggs used on Social Media and I think it very apt.

So at the moment it’s just speculation about the 16 sanctioned events.

Obviously we know about Dubai and can only guess at the others.

In Europe, the biggest competition is the French Throwdown, but what about the UK?

Will we have England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland being represented?

The Reshaping of Competitive Crossfit

CrossFit is changing away from its “Games Focus.”

Regionals is going!

With 162 affiliates in as many countries.

CrossFit is not dying, in fact if it was a restaurant it would be the 6th largest in the world!

This is why a lot of the Media staff have been let go.

CrossFit paid $1 million in Brazil for only 2 Regional athletes.

The Open now in October 2019 for the 2020 Games

There will be 16 CrossFit sanctioned events where the winners get invited to compete at the CrossFit Games.

Games will now be in August.

This gives smaller countries a chance but only 1 male and 1 female and 1 Team from Countries like the USA, Canada and UK!

All In: A Brent Fikowski Documentary - Episode 2 - The Open

CrossFit as a sport is becoming a lot more difficult to compete in, especially for tall athletes like Brent Fikowski.

Previously a Volleyball Player, which benefited from his height, he will always struggle with simple movements like Squats due simply to having longer limbs.

He was also working full time as an Accountant as well as being a competitive athlete.

So if Brent scored badly he had to engage in the #openhumiliation as part of the #trashtalkthursdays.

For this he had a eat a table spoon of Wasabi!

What happens to you if you have a bad workout in the open?

MAT FRASER - CrossFit & The Power of Quotes

Congratulations, you made it!

The 2018 CrossFit Open is over.

But who’s on top?

Mat Fraser of course,

with 98 points in the 2018 CrossFit Open.

In Richard Froning's shadow previously until 2014.

Then it was Ben Smith in 2015.

He kept coming second.

Finally in 2016 he made the difference.

Then he did it again.

He now dominates this year's CrossFit Open in 2018.

Mat uses this quote in his training:

"I'm going to do today what other people aren't willing to do, so that I can do tomorrow what other people can't."
